Ursula Betka-Short BIO PAGE

Dr Ursula Betka is an iconographer, artist, art historian and writer who was born and lives in Melbourne, Australia. She combines the teaching of the history and methodology of traditional forms of sacred Christian art, with her own practice of the iconography of sacred images in both the Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Ursula works in a range of historical materials and methods - tempera painting and gilding on wood, parchment and glass, exploring ways in which these traditions might resonate meaning today.

Majd Kurdieh is painter whose childlike drawings speak to the soul. His work is a combination of art and literature. The painter lives on the edge of a forest in Lebanon away from civilisation and closer to nature where he dreams up his paintings like an alternative world. He uses cartoon-like characters to talk about the current state of the world.

Painting
Neil

Neil has worked as an art teacher and woodworker and has read and traveled widely through Afghanistan to the Mediterranean, being fascinated by its rich and diverse history and culture. Over a lifetime, Neil has collected hand-made items from village and nomadic peoples such as these colourful hand-knotted bags. He lives in rural NSW Australia where friends make hand-spun and dyed wools which are used for the authentic restoration of these beautiful bags. Each is then gently washed so that they are clean, strong and ready for use.
